Estimators – You Must Ask Concrete Polishers These Questions Before Hiring Them
What will be the DOI and Gloss Reading on the floor after you are done?
They should be able to provide you with a detailed answer. If they don’t know what DOI and Gloss Reading are, make sure to hire another polisher ASAP
Is the polisher they using a heavy head pressure machine?
The polisher should be using a heavy head pressure machine weighing at least 1,000 lbs.
Where does the polisher get his diamonds from?
There is a wide variability in diamond quality depending on what country you get your diamonds form. We tend to find that diamonds sourced from South Korea and Bulgaria tend to be of very high and consistent quality. Diamonds from China tend to be of inferior quality in our experience. As a result we won’t use diamonds from China.
How skilled are the polisher’s craftsman?
An experienced polisher will know how to read the floor and move the machine at the correct pace and speed. Every concrete floor is different. A skilled polisher knows that you can’t treat every concrete floor the same as there is a large variation from slab to slab and even from pour to pour.
Have you seen any of the polishers floor after 3 years to see if they are holding up?
Unfortunately, there is no shortage of unqualified concrete polishers. Often times, these low-quality polishers come in with the lowest bids. The end result is that you get what you pay for. The work is of poor quality, and needs to be re-worked. We are called to “fix” poor quality work quite often.
How many times does the polisher apply the dye?
They should be applying the dye twice
Are they doing all edges, door jams and inside corners as part of their bid?
This is a must for a job done right
What is the densifying criteria the polisher is using?
The polisher needs to densify to full rejection.
